This small bundle of wood fragments is from the Liberty Tree, which stood along Orange Street (now Washington Street) in Boston and was the site of notable events in the years leading up to the American Revolution. In 1765 it was the location chosen by the Sons of Liberty for hanging effigies of Stamp Act supporters. In 1775 British soldiers cut down the Liberty Tree.
